New Department of Energy finalizes new energy
conservation standards. These new standards for heating in the
Philadelphia area will increase from 80% AFUE (furnace efficiency) to a
minimum of 90%. This will take effect May 1, 2013 after the 2012 heating
season. The cost of this increase in efficiency will raise the cost of
installation by approximately on the low end of $900.00.
These cost are do
to the higher price of equipment, material and labor costs. Although
higher efficiency is a good thing, many of the homes in the Philadelphia
area are not easy to install the new 90% furnaces. We recommend that if
your furnace is getting older or if you are contemplating replacement
this might be the rite time for you.
